THIS IS THE RAREST SCRAP IN THE ELVES 25 YEARS OF COLLECTING
This incredible large Santa bust was made for a treatment such as this. Often Victorian craftsman created artwork like this so artisans both in the commercial and home-craft markets could add their own paper and fabric to complete the figure by using their imaginations and materials available. Santa had to tell me in his own timing what would look best for his skirt, which meant he on my work table for weeks and I tried trim after trim but did not commit myself until I had it right; not too much, not too little! Over time I culled all my antique cotton batting and dusted it with old glitter. I matched soft silky grey-green Chenille with a Victorian two-tone silk garment remnant complete with tiny cream-colored tassels. I removed Red silk fringe from an 1890’s double-sided postcard, selecting it for it’s lovely goldenrod stitches. I fashioned my own boots from scratch with more fabric remnants, metallic lace, and very old gold Dresden buttons. He still needed one more thing - ah yes - a one-of-a-kind star and gorgeous old gold Lametta.
Lovingly handcrafted and signed by Gail Giaimo.
