This little gem has the look and feel of an authentic century-old ornament. When I saw an antique trade card depicting of two tabby kittens riding in a boat I thought they would be super cute if I cut them out and paired them with an actual glass sailboat ornament. I set them aside until the right boat came along, and here it is, a wonderful petite end-of-day ornament from probably the 1890s. Artisans in Germany at the end of their workday found a creative use for their leftover paint by swirling different colors together and dipping the ornaments into the paint for fun multi-colored effects. This little boat even had its original glass “mast” and was perfect for the kittens. Glenn gave the kitties a tiny antique Dresden paper railing, employed a vintage compo holly sprig, and added a gold Vintage Dresden paper sailboat, antique Dresden paper star, and salvaged the original crinkle-wire for an authentic effect. Antique Dresden roping serves as “rigging” and also doubles as a loop for hanging.
Lovingly handmade and signed by Glenn Giaimo.
