Victorians were enthralled with fantasy. A famous Parisian book, Grandville’s Les Fleurs Animees, printed in 1847, was illustrated with botanically detailed anthropomorphic flower engravings, thus inspiring Victorian illustrators to create their own flower maidens (See original tulip Illustration). I had this antique fairy-like tulip scrap for a long while until I found the right glass body – an antique unsilvered glass tulip faded to a lovely pale translucent green – a perfect size to transform beguiling Lady Tulip into an ornament. Delicate antique fabric trims - ombre silk ruffles in shades of yellow-orange, cotton netting trim underskirt, and tiny looped fabric framing her dress - make our maiden come alive.
Lovingly handcrafted and signed by Gail Giaimo.
